Planning a Charlotte NC to Greenville SC road trip itinerary

The Charlotte to Greenville drive connects the biggest city in North Carolina with an up-and-coming destination in South Carolina.

Charlotte is the biggest city in North Carolina. Major attractions include the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the thrill-packed Carowinds amusement park and the Billy Graham Library. Another popular option is the Sea Life aquarium.

For top Charlotte activities, try historical city tours by golf cart, Segway tours through the Uptown neighbourhood and after dark ghost tours.

And the Roper Mountain Science Center has a planetarium, dinosaur adventure trail, butterfly garden and a living history farm.

Enjoyable Greenville experiences include craft cocktail tours, Segway adventures, paranormal walking tours and dessert-themed foodie tours.

Great Greenville accommodation choices include the spacious SpringHill Suites and the charming Pettigru Place Bed and Breakfast.

Gastonia NC has a few good parks, and the well-regarded Gastonia Farmers Market. The latter is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The main attraction in Gastonia NC, however, is the Schiele Museum of Natural History and Planetarium. There are lots of stuffed animals and dinosaur casts here, plus an interpretation of a Catawba Indian village.

Charlotte to Greenville drive: Crowders Mountain State Park

Crowders Mountain State Park, just north of the South Carolina border, has two mountain peaks for adventurous visitors to tackle. Of these, the Pinnacle is slightly taller than Crowder’s Mountain. The trail to the top of the Pinnacle is only two miles long, but it is strenuous. It’s a 3.3 mile hike to the summit of Crowder’s Mountain, along the Crowder’s Trail and Backside Trail.

There are, however, some easier, more family-friendly trails in the park – but the views aren’t as good.
