Gulliver’s Valley is a relatively new theme park on the outskirts of Rotherham, and it is one firmly aimed at children. There are a few rides, such as the pirate ship and rapids, that older kids will enjoy. But the sweet spot is probably four to eight year olds.

Overnight accommodation is available, while non-traditional theme park attractions include a small farm, an inflatables course, a handful of playgrounds and a mini golf course.

Best stops between Sheffield and Lincoln: Worksop

Former mining village Worksop in North Nottinghamshire isn’t particularly exciting, but there’s a massive amount to do in the villages a couple of minutes either side of it. Experience options including tractor driving, bushcraft lessons, crossbow shooting, pony trekking and archery lessons. You can also do a tasting tour of Europe’s largest rum distillery.

Sheffield to Lincoln drive: Clumber Park

Clumber Park is a National Trust property with a 3,800 acre estate. The Discovery Centre is in the old Turning Yard and Laundry Yard, while other highlights include the Chapel of St Mary the Virgin and the walled kitchen garden.

Most come for the outdoors, however, with the two mile Lime Tree Avenue being the showstopper. There are more than 20 miles of walking and cycling trails, though, and you can hire a bike from the Cycle Hub.
