The Bradford to York drive connects two of Yorkshire’s major cities.

The best things to do in Bradford include the Bradford Industrial Museum, which has a particularly heavy focus on the textile industry and steam power. Bradford to York road trip stops: Oakwell Hall

Oakwell Hall is a key stop on the Bronte trail around West Yorkshire. Charlotte Bronte stayed here in the 1830s, and it later became Fieldhead in her novel, Shirley.

This Elizabethan manor house is Grade I Listed and supposedly haunted. It is furnished to look as it would have done in the 1830s, and the country park outside has nature trails and period gardens.

Best stops between Bradford and York: Leeds

Going into Leeds requires a slight detour, but the city has several attractions worth investigating. The Royal Armouries is the big hitter, with several floors of armour, weapons and warcraft. The Leeds City Museum is a thoughtfully presented all-rounder, and the expansive Roundhay Park offers a series of gorgeous gardens.

The best Leeds activities include food tours that visit top local restaurants and Emmerdale filming locations bus tours.

Bradford to York drive: Lotherton Hall

Lotherton Hall is a grand country house in Aberford, West Yorkshire. The Edwardian Hall has a reasonable collection of art and other treasures inside, but the grounds are the real winner.

If you’re going for a walk, head to the deer park, where Bambi and co will be ambling by.

Lotherton Hall is also home to Wildlife World, a small and not especially fascinating zoo.
