Bradford to Hull road trip guide: Distance, time & best stops

Planning a Bradford to Hull road trip itinerary

The Bradford to Hull drive connects two of the biggest cities in Yorkshire.

The best things to do in Bradford include the Bradford Industrial Museum, which has a particularly heavy focus on the textile industry and steam power. Also worth visiting is the World Heritage-listed Saltaire, a planned town based around the vast Salt’s Mill. The mill itself is now an art, shopping and dining complex with a large collection of works by David Hockney.

For the best attractions in Hull, aim for the Deep aquarium and Wilberforce House, which is all about Britain’s most prominent anti-slavery campaigner.

Bradford to Hull distance and driving time

By car, the distance from Bradford to Hull is 71 miles. That makes for a driving time of around one hour and 35 minutes. The quickest route is along the M62, then the A63.

The best stops to add to a Bradford to Hull road trip itinerary are Oakwell Hall, Pontefract Castle and William’s Den.

Best stops between Bradford and Hull: Oakwell Hall

Oakwell Hall is a key stop on the Bronte trail around West Yorkshire. Charlotte Bronte stayed here in the 1830s, and it later became Fieldhead in her novel, Shirley.

This Elizabethan manor house is Grade I Listed and supposedly haunted. It is furnished to look as it would have done in the 1830s, and the country park outside has nature trails and period gardens.

Bradford to Hull road trip attractions: Pontefract Castle

Pontefract Castle stands on a hill to the east of Pontefract. It was build in 1070, shortly after the Norman Conquest of England, and is now a ruin.

The grounds are open for strolling and exploration daily. The visitor centre tells how the castle played an important part in the English Civil War and was immortalised by Shakespeare in Richard II.

Bradford to Hull drive: William’s Den

William’s Den in East Wold is all about family fun. It offers woodland trails and camping, but the emphasis is firmly on the outdoor play areas. These include sand and water play sections, a 50 metre zip wire and obstacle courses made from hay bales, as well as the standard adventure playground equipment.

It’s the sort of place where you ought to bring a change of clothes for the kids – they will get messy.
